Can I use old sink to make an outdoor water fountain?

I have a sink my grandmother used to bath many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years. It is quite special to me because of this. I am thinking of using it to create a center piece in our garden by turning it into an outdoor water fountain. I am concerned about it rusting out with water constantly running through it. Is there some way to coat or treat it to avoid rusting? My idea is the water will come out of the faucet and then overflow the sink bowl falling down onto a stone base and into a pond basin around it to be pumped back up through the sink fountain. I need suggestions on how to make this happen.

what a cool idea!!…. dunno what your sink looks like, but figger it will set up much the same as those in these links…. either with a pool below it to catch the overflow or with a ‘disappearing’ method like the third one…. either way, you’ll need a basin for the bulk of the water, the pump and filter set up if necessary….

in the first picture, the pump is inside the square that is holding up the top piece….

in the third, the pump is under the gravel in the hidden basin….

the ‘watergarden’ link shows how they did the disappearing fountain….I’ve built one of those andit’s not hard at all…. just remember to protect the pump from debris and leave a way to get in and clean it out now and then….

If the sink is porcelain, it won’t rust. You will need a pond for the water and a pump. Hook a hose to the pump and snake it up through the stones to the tap. Be sure the faucet is open. The hose will have to go through the tap almost to the end. Now plug in the pump.
Oh, plug up the drain. You can stuff some rags in it and then use a plumbers epoxy to make it waterproof.
