What is the difference between steelhead salmon and rainbow trout?

    oh no, certainly salmon and trout are not the same., however, I have never heard of steelhead salmon. There is rainbow trout, and steelhead trout and then salmon. Salmon is pink, and strong tasting. Trout is white, and very mild and sweet

    salmon is pinkish and meaty and very oily fish
    trout is white, mild flavor and not oily

    Besides what ☆ ι ♥ ιƝκ ☆ said, salmon are a saltwater fish that only go into fresh water to spawn and trout is a freshwater fish that cannot survive in saltwater.

    I am a former chef from Canada and true steelhead is the grandfather of the salmon, salmon is an offshoot of the steelhead species, trout are lake fish there is a sea trout but it is smaller than the lake and fresh water variety’s, some have given close answers, steelhead is orange pink to reddish, and is born in the freshwater lives in salt and like salmon returns to spawn and die, trout are freshwater fish, brook, lake, rainbow and brown trout are found in fresh water lakes and rivers, there flesh can be a light orange to pink and when cooked does go a whitish tinge, it is a fatty to lean fish depending on the lake or area is is raised or fished in, another one is the Arctic Char and it is a cross between a trout and steelhead, I have cooked all of those fish and salmon trout another hybrid cross, smaller but darker fleshed.
