    All anadromous are a way for nature to transfer nutrients from the ocean back to land. These migrating fish are a valuable food resource for many other animals, think of all the pictures of bears you see feasting on salmon in the fall before they hibernate. The loss of any species sets off a domino affect to some degree.

    What eats steelhead: Other fish (mainly when they are smolts,) bears, & people are all threats to the steelhead when they are alive. However after spawning they will often die (although this not the rule as it is with salmon,) but the dead carcasses wash to shore and are eaten by everything from insects on up to large mammals.
