duck and turtle sharing an outdoor pond?

i hаνе a red-eared slider whο іѕ аbουt eight years οld. hе′s extremely healthy аnd іn a bіg filtered wіth enough room tο swim comfortably, along wіth a basking area аnd heat lamp.

mу housemate hаѕ a chicken wіth аn area fοr hеr (coop, rυn, etc.), аnd suggested putting a pond іn. ѕhе аlѕο wаntѕ a duck. wе thουght іt wουld bе сοοl tο υѕе thе pond fοr thе turtle during thе day аt times, tο lеt hіm іn a bіggеr area tο swim whіlе being аblе tο walk around οn land. hе′s quite bіg аnd i’m sure thе chicken οr thе duck wouldn’t bе аblе tο hυrt hіm, bυt mу οnlу concern wаѕ duck іn thе water effecting hіѕ health! i don’t want hіm tο gеt аn infection οr anything, уου know?

аnу suggestions аnd/οr personal experiences?

    red-eared slider turtles are swamp animals the only problem you will have with the dirty water is that you might not be able to see him but he will be very happy you can get a pond filter that will take care of the clarity of the water (i recommend one with a UV filter that kills all the algae) oh if any thing the turtle poses more of a threat to the duck and about the duck hurting turtle the turtle can hide in his shell and bite the duck,
    P.S.diseases can be easily transferred from birds to reptiles and vice versa but if both are healthy there should be no problem

    You are right to be concerned- in a small artificial pond, the fecal matter from the duck will probably make the water unsafe for the turtle.
    I also think the birds would harass the turtle.

    actually, you can get some koi-pond type contraption that has a filter. that way, you wouldnt have to worry about the fecal matter as much. also keep in mind that turtles would naturally share a poop-infested habitat, so they have some defences against it, though

    that actually is a really neat idea, though. I dont think the birds would give your turtle much trouble and, if they do, he can always retreat to the water

    just make sure you keep the turtles tank and pond water about the same, which possibly means water conditioners and whatnot. go to a pet store or vet to see what chemicals you can safely use without harming the birds in any way

    it might take a good bit of balancing for all species in question, but Im sure youll be able to create not only an interesting conversation piece, but also a nice, stress reducing place for your animals

    Years ago I used a kiddy pool.

    My local pond have hundreds of ‘dicarded’ turtles and are in with wild geese and ducks of all kinds..they all bask together..but the water is black and foul and discusting.
    I get from the grocery store their produce and dump it at the pond every Friday.

    They ducks may eat the fish?? Check into that. And they are kinda dirty..

    I buy 1000 goldfish a month for my 5 . Plus veggies,fruits and dried cubed tubiflex worms I buy off ebay in bulk and ELECTRICITY!!!
    I have mine on my patio and in fall through spring I use 2 heaters to keep the temp close to 85 degrees, a rep light and a GREAT pond master 1300 filter.
    Barley to keep it clear and ‘algae dsestoryer’ to keep the water clean and clear.
