Would this work to make my own pond filter?

Pond filter from garden bin

I am thinking about making a pond filter out of a garden bin.  I’d seal the bin and place a hole at the bottom where water from the pond pump would enter.  The water would exit through a hole at the top.  I have a UV light that I can pass the exiting water by.  I have a raised pond that is about two feet above ground.  Would this set up work?

    As long as the hole at the bottom is bigger than the hole in the top. All you are talking about is a giant external canister filter, which you would find under a fish tank. It’s exactly the same principle.

    I would put the bin on its side if the pressure wasn’t enough, but that is down to the size of the pump.

    there would possibly be to much pressure on the pump pushing in water at the bottom if you had it above your pond you could put a small round hole at the bottom and a hole at the top so it pushes water into the top and a small hole at the bottom so the water returns back into the pond

    I could work however how large is this pump? You would need enough GPH on the pump to draw water from the pond and force it out the top to get back to the pond. You may need a second pump of the same size.
