When I cleaned my filter for my reef tank, there are green stuff (algae?) that grows on the rocks. Please help?

I thουght thаt taking out thе wіll nοt allow algae tο grow bесаυѕе іѕ nοt thеrе tο convert tο fοr algae. I аlѕο hаνе a protein skimmer, whісh I сlеаn out еνеrу week.

    Algae grows in almost any water exposed to light. Cleaning the filter does not remove a significant amount of the bacteria in the tank. Bacteria lives throughout the water, on the rocks, in the sand, and on the fish.

    My roommate had algae growing in his filtered water, just to give you an idea of how pervasive algae is.

    Algae in small amounts is not bad for a fish tank, though it can make it look poor. If you want to fix algae, get some small organism that will eat it. Tangs are usually pretty good algae cleaners, but are somewhat difficult to keep if you’re not experienced with them.

    algae can grow in almost all conditions and in small amounts wont harm your fish. dont freak.

    get some algae eating loach in there, and some algae eating shrimp, get some nice fast growing plants in there, they will take all the nutrients away from the algae, once the plants get to big, just pull half the plant out, better than scraping algae? easy.
    watch your light levels, turn the light timer down a bit.
    Buy a water sterilizer.

    With all this reduction in algae make sure you don’t have a fish that grazes on mature algae or it might starve. i mean fish that eat the small creatures that live in hairy algae, I don’t mean algae eaters, they will always find some algae you can’t see with your eye. If you do have these fish keep some stones in a jar of water in direct sunlight to create hairy algae on the stones, then put them into the tank to keep these fish happy.

    Try not to throw chemicals at the problem, when the chems wear off the algae usually surges back in my exp., better to stop the reason for it growing than to put chemicals in all the time.
