What is best way to minimize algae in an outdoor pond?

Minimize algae in

I have a large outdoor pond at the new house I just moved to and I need to learn how to deal with the algae growing in it.  There are about twenty Koi and it is equipped with a pump, filter, and waterfall. There are a fair amount of aquatic plants growing just under the surface. Is there something else I should or can be doing to minimize the ?

    Algae is a plant. People use Copper sulfate to kill the algae but any plants you have in the water are not going to like you.
    Maybe there is something that will kill the algae and not the water plants but I don’t know of one.
    Also if you kill the algae it will use oxygen when it decomposes and could result in a fish kill.

    I use many plants that stay on the surface. There are also inexpensive chemicals that you can purchase that work quite well and do not harm the fish. When necessary, I use Laguna’s Clear Fast for algae , but there are other brands that work as well. It was available at the pet store where I purchased my koi. It does not harm the fish.

    The plants growing up to the surface may also have been intentionally placed as a feature by the previous owners. I would wait a little while to see. Plants provide oxygen and hiding places for the fish.

    there is an ultra-violet light you can install in your pump to kill the algae.
    this will kill all the algae that is processed through the filter. also you need to buy an algae killer solution to kill the existing algae.
    you will have to clean out the pond for about two weeks after all this has been done.
