What freshwater fish eat waterborne algae?

Waterborne algae a big problem

I am having problem with waterborne algae in my freshwater pond.  Is there any type of fish that eats waterborne algae?  How about shrimp?  Do the regular feed on it.  Is there a special type of that feeds on waterborne algae? My problem is getting out of hand.

    Free floating algae thats making the water green? No fish eat that, it’s just too small.

    You need to control the level of light and nutrients in the tank. Those are whats feeding the algae. Less light, and more water changes to remove the nutrients that are feeding the algae will fix things up.

    An Algae eating fish will actually make the problem worse as they eat the normal algae of the rocks and glass, then poop out the nutrients. As the fixed algae is now gone that encourages more of the free floating stuff.

    you mean your tank is green with algae? Try wiping the sides before you rule anything out. And freshwater clams are great for green water! they filter it! ask a local pet shop if you can "borrow" the clams. most fish and invertebrates don’t eat green water. The clams should filter the water, and be VERY careful. =] trust me.

    You could always by a pleco, because they’re great algae eaters.
